Making Plans for a Caribbean Vacation
Visit Cities in Caribbean:
Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands
Montego Bay, Jamaica
Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica

The Caribbean is part of North, Central and South America, consisting of the Caribbean Sea, islands of the Caribbean and the surrounding coasts. There are over 7,000 islands and other land surfaces in the area. They are organized as a sub-region of North America and involved 27 different territories, some of which are sovereign states and others that are departments or dependencies of other countries. The Caribbean has a rich history, spanning many centuries, and has played a part in colonial struggles on European nations for centuries. One of the most commonly known wars over this area took place during World War II, in which witnessed tensions rise between Communist Cuba and the United States. For such a small area of land, the controversy over this region has been quite alarming.

However, given the beauty of the Caribbean Sea and the nearby islands, it's no surprise that many countries had a serious interest in this prosperous region. The region is still popular today as a major worldwide tourist attraction. How do you go about entering the Caribbean? The best way to travel is by plane, and depending on where you are coming from, there are different companies to fly you there. Some of the most commonly used airlines include Virgin, Air France, Air Jamaica and Caribbean Airlines. Once you arrive in the Caribbean you can explore all of the region by boat, including by a Caribbean Yacht Charter, Caribbean Cruises or Regent Seven Seas Luxury Cruise Lines. You may need a visa and passport for visiting and returning from the Caribbean, so contact your travel agency or consulate for more assistance.

The climate and the geography of the Caribbean can vary from one area to another. Some islands have tropical temperatures, whereas others have subtropical conditions. One determining factor may be the trade winds coming from the Atlantic. These winds blow toward the Eastern Caribbean islands and move northwest. However, when they arrive close to the island of Cuba the winds are usually overcome by other jet streams. There is also a chance of hurricane activity northwards of Grenada and west of Barbados. In planning a trip it's best to avoid hurricane season, which is generally in summer to autumn months. The advantage is that purchasing tickets in hurricane season can save you money whereas spring and summer months, as well as the calmer winter season, can be pricey.

What are some must-see destinations in the Caribbean? Cuba is an historical island of great interest, while Jamaica and the Dominican Republic offer excellent scenic viewing. The Navassa Island is an uninhabited wildlife refuge, while the Virgin Islands offer more history. Martinique has been referred to as the "Little France" of the Caribbean and the San Andres and Providencia also can provide a relaxing stay. There are also other islands nearby, though not part of the Caribbean, that are still worth the travel over-these include the Bahamas, Bermuda. A trip to the Caribbean is a great idea for a relaxing, scenic vacation.
